A Huron man died this past weekend in a rollover accident nine miles south of Miller. The South Dakota Highway Partrol says 37-year-old Victor Grassrope, Jr. was driving westbound on 216th Street as he approached the T-intersection with South Dakota Highway 45. Grassrope’s vehicle ran the stop sign, crossed the highway and drove off the southbound lane shoulder, hitting several rocks and a tree. The car a 1998 Ford Escort then rolled coming to rest on it’s roof against a fence line. The accident was reported just before noon on Saturday, however authorities believe the accident itself happened many hours before that time, early Saturday morning. Grassrope was not wearing a seatbelt and the Highway Patrol says alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the cause of the accident. Assisting the Highway patrol were the Hand and Jerauld County Sheriff, Miller Police and Fire Department and Hand County Ambulance.
