A 19 year old man from Huron will undergo treatment for his role in burning a vehicle in Mitchell. According to court documents Patrick Red Legs and Jeremiah Hart of Mitchell are accused of burning a stolen vehicle and intentional property damage on September 9th, 2012. Redlegs entered a no contest plea to the charges on October 4th of last year. However a judge ordered he undergo an evaluation at the Human Services Center in Yankton to determine whether he was competent to assist in his defense. During a Tuesday court appearance Redlegs attorney Doug Papaendick reviewed the findings of the evaluation with prosecutors and Judge Tim Bjorkman. The findings indicate Redlegs is unable to assist in his defense due to several mental health issues, including self harm, and that he needs treatment. Deputy States Attorney Bob O’Keefe agreed that Redlegs go to the HSC for help. A status hearing for Redlegs is scheduled for June.
