After a year in the planning stages, the Huron Community Foundation is set to host “Huron Rising – Reimagine our Future” on September 12.
“We have no agenda or preconceived ideas of the outcome of Huron Rising – that is what makes it exciting!” said Steve Gohn, Foundation President. “We want to hear every idea – from $100 for a water fountain in a park, to projects costing millions, and everything in between,” said Gohn. “Nothing is off the table.”
Foundation Board member Dr. Mike Fuchs said the purpose of Huron Rising is to listen and seek input from all segments of the community. “We will identify projects that the Community Foundation can take on alone, as well as larger projects that can be moved forward through partnerships with other organizations in our community.”
Anything is possible according to Gohn. “We are coming in to the meeting with a clean slate in regard to projects we want to help support.” Dr. Fuchs added that the Foundation Board is looking to take a very proactive approach. “We really look forward to hearing everyone’s comments and ideas – regardless of the size of the project.”
“I love the work that the Community Foundation has been doing, and Huron Rising will take the Foundation to the next level,” said former Huron Mayor Mary Pearson, a long-time Community Foundation Board member. “The event is about making the best investment of our time, funding, and resources by the Community Foundation, as well as other nonprofits and elected boards.”
Pearson said the event is about making Huron a better place to live, work, and play. “Our goal is for the results to be used to create a roadmap for the Foundation, elected officials, and other Huron nonprofit organizations to form partnerships, prioritize funding, and create synergy for Huron’s future.”
Pearson noted that all 60 seats at the event were quickly reserved by the public through preregistration, however residents can sign up on a waiting list in case a seat opens up at HuronCommunityFoundation.org.
“We’re excited to get Huron’s best thinking in one room on Sept. 12,” said Pearson. “If you can’t attend, please submit your best ideas to [email protected] and we will share them with the group.”
The Huron Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization formed in April 2004 to create a community savings account that will grow and benefit everyone in Huron for generations to come.
