Huron Regional Medical Center employees had a chance to show off some of the continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing service, safety and patient care at your community hospital on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at HRMC’s Legacy Plaza Auditorium.
A total of 12 projects were presented and a panel of judges, as well as People’s Choice voting, chose the project winners:
- 3rd Place – Home Health Pain Assessment in Advanced Dementia Patients, which focused on improving the communication of pain levels by hospice patients who are unable to self-report their pain.Team Leader-Elizabeth Watson, RN; Members: Lacey Larson, RN, Carla Brock, Bobbi Lucklum, PT, Kathy Roti, RN, Janice Christensen, RN, Melissa Heinen, RN, Karen Decker, RN, Sheri Beckwith, RN, Kelsey Fuchs, RN, Karen Janes, RN, and Kay Williams
- 2nd Place and Peoples’ Choice – Surgery Take a Time Out, a project to implement an HRMC surgical safety checklist and revise the time out process to the lines of communication amongst the surgery staff enabling patient risks to be identified and improve patient safetyTeam Leader: Shawn Miner, RN; Mentor: Pam Shoultz, RN; Members: Holly Traen, RN, Tarryn Korkow, RN.
- 1st Place – Lab Blood Culture, which aimed to reduce contamination rates when drawing blood for testing in order to provide the most rapid treatment possible for HRMC patients.Team Leader: Erin Scarborough; Team Members: Chelsey Storms and Kelsi Houge
HRMC’s focus is on continually finding ways to improve the care the hospital delivers for patients from the region. The Quality Fair was designed to showcase just a few of those projects and celebrate the amazing efforts of HRMC staff to strive to deliver personalized, quality and safe care to their patients.
