HRMC Pre-Apprenticeships Introduce Diverse Community to Careers in Healthcare

The Department of Labor and Regulation has provided $510,000 in incentive funding to help businesses expand the number of Pre-Apprenticeships and Registered Apprenticeships in South Dakota.

Businesses could apply for funding to help offset the initial start-up costs when developing a new program.

Huron Regional Medical Center applied for the maximum amount of $30,000 for theĀ  Registered Apprenticeship and the $10,000 maximum amount for the Pre-Apprenticeship

Priority was given to programs designed to increase engagement for under-represented populations such as females, Native Americans, limited-English proficient individuals, youth ages 16 to 24 and individuals with disabilities.

Brooke Sydow, workforce program developer with the HRMC Foundation, says the pre-apprenticeships will be in English as a second language healthcare training.

Sydow says the pre-apprenticeship program is open to the public. There is no cost to participants.

Sydow says the program should take about a year to complete.

The program is expected to begin this summer. For more information contact Sydow at 605-353-6315.
