Employees of Beadle County are mourning the loss of Highway Superintendent Jerry Batien….

Batien passed away Wednesday evening in Sioux Falls at Sanford U-S-D Medical Center with family by his side. Batien fought a ten-month fight with pancreatic cancer. Family and friends remembering Batien recalled one of his favorite phrases that he used all the time, “Point Blank” It worked its way into a number of interviews…

Batien spent 32 years with the Highway Department. These words from Batien were quoted by the Associated Press in the spring of 2011 in a story about a late spring snow storm…

A somber sign hangs on the front door the Beadle County Courthouse announcing the passing of Jerry Batien. It ends with the following….”Point Blank, were going to miss you Jerry”. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron. Burial will take place at the Restlawn Memory Gardens south of Huron on Highway 37. Visitation is Monday at the Welter Funeral Home from six to eight PM.  Performance Radio News wishes to express it’s deepest condolences to the Batien family.
