The South Dakota Department of Transportation will begin work on the James River Bridge on Highway 42 on Monday, Aug. 5.
The project includes removing the existing bridge, constructing a new bridge spanning the James River and raising the elevation of the roadway through the river valley approximately three feet.
During construction, the roadway will be closed and traffic detoured to Highway 44 between Highway 37 and Highway 81.
The prime contractor for the $7.25 million project is Perrett Construction LTD of Valentine, Nebraska.
The road is scheduled to be reopened on July 3, 2020.
The contract completion date for the project is Aug. 28, 2020.
