Helicopter Training For With Sanborn County and Other Sheriff Depts.

Yes, that was a black helicopter flying over Mitchell Tuesday morning and afternoon.  It’s part of training offered by the South Dakota National Guard Counterdrug Aviation unit. Chief Warrant Officer Seth Mendel is one of two pilots leading the session…

Mendel and his partner Chief Warrant Officer Barry Sullivan piloted Mitchell Police officers as well as members of the Davison, Hanson, Aurora, and Sanborn County Sheriff’s Offices on the training flights in the black OH-58 Kiowa that’s equipped to assist in anti-drug operations…..

Davison County Jail Administrator Don Radel appreciated the opportunity….

Radel also used the opportunity to take an aerial photograph of the site where human remains were discovered Monday evening on Mitchell’s eastside. The helicopter and crew are based in Rapid City and available to assist any size law enforcement agency in anti-drug operations at no cost.  The unit is funded through the federal government.
