Hearings Set On Plan To Move Mail Processing To Huron

PIERRE, SD – Hearings have been scheduled on the proposed transfer of mail processing from Pierre and Aberdeen to Huron.   The U.S. Postal Service will gather public comments at the May 10 hearing at the Pierre Chamber of Commerce. Comments also will be accepted through May 25.  A similar hearing will be held May 9 at the Ramada Inn in Aberdeen, with comments accepted through May 24.   The Postal Service is considering moving processing work from both cities to its facility in Huron.  Officials believe moving the service from Pierre would save around half a million dollars a year. Four people would lose their jobs.
