Tammy Harrington is the new health information management director for Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC), according to Marcia Zwanziger, HRMC vice president of finance and CFO.
Harrington began her new role November 1 and is responsible for establishing and managing policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy and safety of all health information collected at HRMC. She also serves as the hospital’s privacy officer promoting and maintaining confidentiality of information regarding patients, families, healthcare personnel and the facility. Harrington has worked as a coder at HRMC since October 2016 and served as interim HIM supervisor for the last three months.
“I am pleased to welcome Tammy to her new role as department director and privacy officer,” said Zwanziger. “She is very good at building positive relationships and her proven teamwork skills will be used to work with others to assure HRMC’s coding, transcription and record-keeping needs are met and our patient information is protected.”
Harrington has extensive healthcare coding experience and holds a Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P) certificate. She earned an associate of science in medical records technology from Presentation College in 1990. While earning her degree, she interned at HRMC and then continued to do PRN transcription work. Prior to joining HRMC in October 2016, she worked in various roles in coding and billing for several health-related organizations. Harrington will be pursuing a bachelor’s degree program as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
Originally from Cavour, SD, Harrington has lived in Huron for more than 30 years. She and her significant other, Dave Gilbert, enjoy cooking and spending time with their two dogs. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, reading and crafts.
