Due to the recent blizzard, and the accumulation of snow and piles of pushed snow on road edges and shoulders, road conditions in Hand County have become a concern.
Hand County has issuing a travel advisory for rural county gravels and hard surface roads. Officials say they assume township roads are in similar shape.
The advisory is for all sized vehicles to drive slowly because road surfaces may have standing water, soft spots or areas of mud. All shoulders should be considered soft and motorist are encouraged to avoid driving on or near the road edges until conditions improve.
Roads with limited sight distance and these soft conditions add double threats. Be extra cautious when approaching hills, curves or areas with poor viability.
Hand County Emergency Management is encouraging motorists to reduce speeds by 20 mph during this time to avoid possible loss of control, collisions or roll-overs due to road conditions.
County highway crews continue to work to clear hard surface roads and widen county gravels. Many townships are working to establish one good path in or out for residents. Residents are asked to be patient and allow crews to work.
