PIERRE, SD – The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission has agreed to re-establish a state game refuge that was dissolved earlier this year before area landowners had been consulted. At the request of one landowner, the Legislature this year repealed a state law that created the Wall Lake State Game Bird Refuge near Miller. But other families who own land in or adjacent to the refuge were surprised to find out the sanctuary for ducks, geese and other game birds had been dissolved. They asked the Game, Fish and Parks Commission to re-establish the refuge through an administrative rule. The reinstated refuge does not include the land of the landowner who persuaded the Legislature to repeal the original refuge.
