The National Association of Conservation Districts has joined a coalition of agricultural and environmental groups asking the Senate Ag Committee to tie crop insurance in with conservation compliance in the new farm bill. South Dakota Association of Conservation District’s President Frances Fritz of Iroquois says it’s a major victory for everyone when a natural resource safety net is linked with crop insurance and conservation.
The Coalition is also opposing payment limitations or premium subsidy reductions for the risk management program. Fritz says having all these groups band together with a common goal should help spur passage of this provision.
Fritz says linking conservation to crop insurance further protects natural resources while insurance producer’s bottom line.
