Greater Huron Development is hosting a free Webinar from 12:00 to 1:00 on Friday, October 9, to review the details of the SD CARES Small Business & Nonprofit Grant Program.
The webinar link is available at www.GreaterHuron.com. Registration in not required to link to the webinar.
The SD legislature passed funding authority for Governor Noem’s proposed Small Business Grant Program in a Special Session on October 5. This program will provide direct grants to businesses and nonprofits negatively impacted by COVID-19.
The program rules have changed from the original framework for the program, including the addition of a separate allocation of funding for non-profit organizations, funding for start-up businesses, removal of the minimum sales requirements, and establishing a minimum grant award.
Grants are up to $100,000 per qualifying business. Eligible businesses must be located in South Dakota and have a reduction in business of at least 25 percent.
The application for this grant is anticipated to be available late this week. Greater Huron will post a link on their website as soon as it becomes available. It is expected that the application process will be entirely “online” and that paper applications will not be accepted.
Applications will be accepted not later than October 23, 2020. Thousands of businesses are expected to apply, so it is very important that businesses begin working with their accountants on collecting the required documents for the application immediately.
Senator Jim White, Rep. Roger Chase, and Rep. Lynn Schneider will be speaking at the webinar, which will be moderated by Greater Huron. Senator Hugh Bartels of the Senate Appropriations Committee will also be available on the webinar to address questions.
A presentation will be shown featuring an example business eligibility calculation for the program, which will be followed by a Q&A session.
A grant fact sheet from the SD Retailers Association, as well as a copy of the Grant Resolution passed by SD Legislature on October 5, are available at www.GreaterHuron.com.
