Grantmakers In Aging (GIA) and South Dakota Community Foundation recently awarded SDSU Extension a two-year one hundred five thousand dollar grant designed to connect older South Dakotans who want to learn how to navigate the internet with tech savvy teen guides.
That’s Leacey Brown, she is the SDSU Extension Gerontology Field Specialist. She says the TeachSD program is an invaluable service. Students will learn how to explain complicated tech language to adults, who don’t have much experience with the internet.
Brown says helping coach older South Dakotans on the usefulness of technology, can keep families’ long distance relationships strong.
According to AARP, nearly one third of South Dakotans 50 and older do not use the internet.
