Governor Remains Cautious Despite Expected Positive Revenue Growth

Citing information given to the state by its primary economic consultant, Gov. Dennis Daugaard presented conservative fiscal recommendations during his State of the State Address yesterday.

Daugaard says the state is expecting positive revenue growth, but needs to remain cautious because recent growth has been sluggish and sale tax projections are down.

Daugaard gave four South Dakota specific economic indicators—employment, non-farm income, housing starts and unemployment.

Agriculture is a major cornerstone of the state’s economy and Daugaard says state revenues reflect the current difficult financial situation many in agriculture are facing.
