Governor Calls Special Session to Work Out Mechanics of Online Sales Tax Collections

Gov. Dennis Daugaard has called a special legislative session to speed up action on the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc.

District 22 State Representative Roger Chase says the session is being called to work out issues related to the collection and remittance of online sales tax.

The Governor has indicated that he would like collections to begin by October 1st. Chase says that shouldn’t be an issue.

The special session will not consider proposals on to use the new revenue. However, Chase has opinions on how the money should be used.

The special session will be Sept. 12th.
