South Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice David Gilbertson presented the annual State of the Judiciary address to a joint session of the South Dakota legislature Wednesday. He says a new wave of evil has descended on South Dakota citizens.
South Dakota has seen the expansion of drug courts to deal with drug offenders and Gilbertson says they’re working.
Gilbertson says it may be time to look at a different way of treating drug offenders.
Gilbertson touched on the expansion of court security in South Dakota. Twenty-six counties took advantage of grants totally nearly 300-thousand dollars for security upgrades. The Chief Justice also discussed getting lawyers to rural South Dakota, the State Bar Exam and expanding of the Hope Program.
