It’s been a rough four weeks for two proposed ordinances that attempted to work their way past the Huron City Commission. The ordinances began their short lives together as one ordinance presented to the City Commission on April 13th. After that meeting the ordinances were split. An ordinance regarding the use of corrugated steel roofing was defeated last week. Monday night, the other half, an ordinance regarding building garages on small lots without a home failed to move forward. Commissioner Doug Kludt wanted to know last week if it was allowed for the Commission to make changes to ordinances between first and second reading. City Attorney Jeff Banks says there’s nothing wrong with adding items to the ordinance…
Kludt reiterated his opposition to being allowed to add items to an ordinance, even if it’s legal…
Commissioner Gary Harrington agreed with Kludt before making a motion to approve the ordinance…
The ordinance would have only affected 10 properties in Huron at the current time.
