SIOUX FALLS, SD – A 20-year-old South Dakota woman has been sentenced to one year in prison for assaulting a federal officer. U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says Sheranda Shields, of Fort Thompson, was also sentenced Tuesday to three years of supervised release for the September 2010 incident. Prosecutors say Shields rammed the bumper of a Bureau of Indian Affairs officer’s car after failing to stop for the officer and leading him on a chase. The officer was not injured and was able to arrest Shields.
A federal grand jury indicted Shields in May. She pleaded guilty to the charge in July.
