A delegation from the South Dakota Farmers Union met with officials from the Surface Transportation Board, and Senator John Thune’s office in Washington to talk about rail access and rail car availability.
Todd Yeaton manages the Gavilon Grain terminal in Kimball and says rail cars are out there and costs have gone down.
Yeaton, former head of the state Railroad Board, says there are grain shuttle trains waiting for orders.
Yeaton says traffic has been slow, but will pick up along with harvest.
Yeaton says there is no demand for soybeans in the northwest export markets due to the ongoing tariffs.
