PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – Gov. Dennis Daugaard is appointing former Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad president Kevin Schieffer to the South Dakota Board of Regents. Schieffer left DM&E in 2008 after Canadian Pacific Railway bought the company following 12 years at its helm. He also served as U.S. Attorney for South Dakota from 1991 to 1993, worked in private practice for three years and served as chief of staff to U.S. Senator Larry Pressler from 1982 to 1991. Schieffer earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota and is a graduate of Georgetown University School of Law. Daugaard says Schieffer understands the value of higher education. Schieffer replaces Carole Pagones, who retired from the regents last month after 10 years of service
