Fog a Factor in 5-Vehicle Crash Near Arlington

One person suffered life threatening injuries in a 5-vehicle crash, 8 miles north of Arlington in Kingsbury County last Friday morning.

The accident happened around 7:48 am.

Adrien Bjerke, age 22, of Clark, was southbound on U.S. Highway 81.

A 1997 Kenworth T600 with loaded dump truck, driven by Matthew Van Moer, age 24, of Lake Preston, was eastbound on 200th.

Van Moer stopped at the stop sign and could not see anything because of the reported fog.

The semi pulled out in the intersection. Bjerke’s vehicle collided with the dump trailer.

Sarah Weinberg, age 16, of Arlington, was southbound on 281, tried to avoid the vehicles and hit the front of the semi.

Todd Walker, age 54, of Watertown was southbound on 281 and slowed down. He was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by Madysn Gilbertson, age 17, of Arlington.

Bjerke suffered life-threatening injuries.

Weinberg, Gilbertson, and Walker were treated at the scene.

Van Moer suffered no injuries.

The SD Highway Patrol is investigating.
