A flood warning continues until further notice for the James River in Huron.
At 10 am this morning (Wed.) the stage was at 14.02 feet. Flood stage is 11 feet.
The river is forecast to crest at 16 feet by Sunday and then begin falling. Moderate flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
According to the National Weather Service:
- At 10 feet, flooding of rural low-lying areas begins.
- At 11 feet, significant amounts of rural areas will experience flooding.
- At 14 feet, numerous county and township roads in Beadle County will be flooded.
- At 15 feet, approximately 16000 acres of agricultural land around Huron will be flooded.
- At 16 feet, 3rd Street, Highway 14 Business Loop Bypass, in Huron will begin flooding.
You are reminded not to drive through water crossing roads. You are also urged not to drive past barricades.
Beadle County Emergency Management Director Taylor Jans says residents travel at their own risk on township roads.
