Five Huron Tigers have been named to the 11AA all state football team. Seniors Jett McGirr, Matt Katz, Chipper Shillingstad, Bryce Steffen, and Gabe Reiger were all named to the first team, selected by the South Dakota Football Coaches Association.
Jett McGirr was chosen at defensive back, and Huron head coach Michael Schmitz says Jett was in charge of the secondary.
Matt Katz was selected at long snapper last year, and linebacker this year. Schmitz said Matt played many spots on defense.
Shillingstad is also a repeat selection, chosen on defense last year, and special teams this year. Schmitz says Chipper’s quickness was his biggest asset.
Coach Schmitz says Bryce Steffen was fundamentally sound on the offensive line.
Reiger was selected on the O-line last year, and D-line this year and his coach says Gabe always played at full gear.
