Five men have been arrested in connection with an assault Thursday afternoon on South Terrace Drive.

Around 5:50 pm, the Huron Police Dispatch Center received a 911 call advising five men with firearms and baseball bats had assaulted someone on South Terrace Drive. The reporting party said the suspects were leaving the area in a silver Buick Enclave.

Officers responding to the call located the vehicle leaving the area where the assault was reported to have occurred. The officers stopped the vehicle and detained all five occupants.

The occupants were identified as Julio Burgos Silva, age 20, Frederick Gonzales, age 22, Eduardo Ramos, age 22, Jessenia Martinez, age 29, and a juvenile male all of Huron. A search of the vehicle uncovered a 9mm handgun, a Rawlings baseball bat, a kitchen knife and an airsoft handgun.

All five were arrested in connection with the assault. The suspects were charged as follows:

Silva- aggravated assault

Gonzalez- aggravated assault, commission of a felony while armed with firearms

During the investigation, it was learned that the aggravated assault had occurred in retaliation for a domestic assault that had happened earlier in the evening.

The suspects claimed that 28-year old David Hernandez had assaulted his girlfriend, which prompted the attack.

Later in the evening, Hernandez’s girlfriend arrived at the police station to report being assaulted. She was able to provide details of the assault and identified Hernandez as the perpetrator.

Hernandez was arrested and charged with aggravated assault domestic violence.
