Governor Dennis Daugaard gave South Dakota lawmakers his State of the State address and talked about increasing teacher pay and Medicaid expansion. State Farmers Union Legislative Director Matt Sibley says his group wants an increase in teacher pay but has concerns with part of the Governor’s plan especially its possible effect on low income families.
He says Farmers Union opposes the equity redistribution proposal because that would hurt rural districts.
Sibley says his group does back the Governor’s Medicaid expansion proposal.
Sibley says one of the concerns his group has is potential legislation being floated around that would limit the initiative process and take rights away from voters.
