South Dakota Farmers Union members at last week’s convention reelected Doug Sombke to his sixth two year term as President. He says the top policy issues their group approved were on the state level. Sombke says concerns revolved around education funding and the need to pass a ballot measure changing redistricting in the state.
Sombke says his group’s members want to see more sources for funding education rather than the heavy reliance on property taxes which have become a burden.
He says the only national issue farmers union took action on was to re confirm their support of changing country of origin labeling from a mandatory to a voluntary program and to back efforts in the Senate to achieve that.
