South Dakota’s 2016 legislative session got underway this week with the Governor’s State of the State speech. South Dakota Farm Bureau Lobbyist Mike Held says his group backs Governor Daugaard’s education proposal and is anxious to hear more about it. He says that support came last November when their state convention delegates adopted policy backing the Blue Ribbon Task Force Committee’s recommendations.
He says they’re waiting to hear details of how the Governor’s plan will work.
Held says Farm Bureau will work to push for their legislative priorities they outlined earlier, including ag land assessment and drainage district tweaking.
Held says one measure that’s already been introduced his group is concerned about is a measure that would give counties the ability to levy a sales tax.
