Extension of Non-Meandered Waters Bill Passes the Senate

On a vote of 26 to 9 the South Dakota Senate approved SB 24 Tuesday afternoon.  The legislation will extend the effective date of the state law dealing with the recreational use of non meandered waters.  Speaking in favor of the legislation was Senator Gary Cammack of Union Center who says the law tackles the age old problem of recreation, respect and landowner rights.

Senator Alan Solano of Rapid City is hopeful the extension will help.

Senator Stace Nelson opposed the bill saying it pushes aside the importance of private property rights.

Nelsons said 100 years ago these trespassing arguments would have been settled with a rifle report.
