Ken Huber wiped tears from his eyes as he relived the moments after his wife Pam was struck by a bullet from his Glock 40-caliber handgun. Prosecutors played the 9-1-1 tape made while he called for help. Huber himself is difficult to hear on the tape except for when trying to give first add to his wife. At that time the Huber’s daughter Stephanie took the phone and talked with Pierre police department dispatcher Wendy Carroll. The young girl was remarkable calm at times, yet frantic at others. Stephanie said on the call quote. “Mom, I love you. We need somebody now. We need somebody fast.” Stephanie Huber also said quote ” He, referring to her dad, was moving it from the safe and accidental pulled the trigger. . Earlier former Hyde County States Attorney Jennifer Lowrie recalled e-mails and phone calls about her love affair with Huber. At one point, point a very sexually explicit e-mail between Lowrie and Huber was shown to the Jury but not read into the record. Former Highmore police chief Ray Kusser talked about photos he had taken at the scene including one showing a large amount of blood on top of the bed that appeared to have flowed down the side of the bed and pooled on the floor. Ken Huber’s daughters Stephanie and Carrie showed remarkable composure while testifying about what they saw the night their mother was shot. A number of responding EMTs testified they either didn’t notice the gun or saw it near the headboard or nightstand next to the bed while others saw the gun on the opposite end of the bed. Also testifying Thursday was Mike Volek. Volek said he quote “never got along” with Huber from the day he moved to Highmore. He told jurors Huber seemed “shook up” after the shooting and did not secure the gun in the bedroom for fear of causing a confrontation with Huber. Jurors Friday will go two at a time into the Huber home to get a first hand look at the crime scene. They will be escorted by a court bailiff and DCI agent who will let them into the house.
