El Nino Could Mean Cooler August, Warmer Fall for the Northern Plains

A growing El Nino in the Pacific Ocean will have an increasing impact on weather in the northern plains this winter and into next spring.

Martha Shulski, Nebraska State Climatologist conducted the monthly North Central Region climate update, and says August heat may miss much of the northern plains.

Shulski says the outlook into fall shows warmer than normal temperatures expected in the region.

Shulski says El Nino conditions will start to be felt by late in the year.

Shulski says an El Nino typically means warmer temperatures and more precipitation in the winter and early spring.
