Education Backers Attempting To Place Education Bill On Ballot This Fall

Another petition drive is underway in South Dakota, looking to put HB1234 on the November ballot.  That bill was the centerpiece of Governor Dennis Daugaard’s legislative agenda this year. It would mandate more teacher evaluations, do away with continuing contracts, and provide scholarship money for prospective teachers.  Sandy Arseneault, President of the South Dakota Education Association says its about local control..

Much of the bill would be implemented over the next few years, and it did not have any money associated with it this year.  Arseneault says despite that, they felt they could not wait another year…

They need to get over sixteen thousand signatures by June18th.
