State Senator Mike Vehle of Mitchell has been spearheading an effort for a statewide ban on texting while driving for several years in the legislature only to have his efforts thwarted. Earlier this week Mitchell joined Sioux Falls, Huron, Watertown, Brookings, and Vermillion in banning the practice.
