The two candidates for State Senate in District 20 outlined their views on a variety of issues during Tuesday night’s candidate’s forum in Mitchell. Republican incumbent Senator Mike Vehle of Mitchell and Democratic challenger Quentin Burg of Wessington Springs clashed over Referred Law 14. The plan is designed to take 22% of revenues from the contractor’s excise tax and shift it to the general fund to provide economic grants for projects costing more than $5-million dollars. The two also disagreed on the education reform measure, Referred Law 16, but agreed the state needs to address it’s growing prison population.
