One of the hottest topics this session will be an effort by some lawmakers to take South Dakota off of, or modify, the Common Core standards for k-12 education. They were adopted in 2010 as a replacement for No Child Left Behind. Daugaard says he supports the standards and they were written by the state, not the federal government…
The Governor also says he recognizes that the standards have come to mean much more for many people….
This year’s session runs through March 14th with a veto day set aside for March 31st.
