HURON, S.D. (AP) — Gov. Dennis Daugaard has announced the formation of a task force to find a balance between modern agricultural practices and wildlife-oriented land conservation. Daugaard made the announcement Friday at his first-ever Pheasant Habitat Summit. He’s concerned about the declining pheasant population and its statewide impact. The task force has not yet been assembled. But Daugaard says it could include lawmakers — and certainly hunters and landowners. About 500 people registered to attend the nearly seven-hour summit at th Huron Arena. Besides hearing presentations from state agencies, participants met in small groups to share ideas on how to improve the pheasant habitat across the state. Daugaard says the task force will review the ideas and eventually recommend an action plan.
