FORT THOMPSON, SD – The chairman of the Crow Creek Sioux tribe in South Dakota is scheduled for trial March 1 in a construction contract bribery case that has led to the convictions of several other tribal officials. Duane Big Eagle, of Fort Thompson, has pleaded not guilty to bribery and conspiracy counts that could land him in prison for 30 years if he’s convicted. Big Eagle remains the tribe’s leader, but Tribal Councilman Peter Lengkeek says a petition is being circulated to remove him from office.
