SIOUX FALLS, SD – A South Dakota wind developer says a utility company is breaking federal law by refusing to buy power for a wind farm planned in Clark County. Oak Tree Energy has filed a complaint with the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission, alleging that Sioux Falls-based Northwestern Energy is required to buy power generated by independent operators.
Oak Tree Energy plans to build a 19.5-megawatt wind farm. Northwestern Energy spokesman Tom Glanzer says the company has received the complaint and plans to respond later this week. He had no further comment.
