The city of Huron held a citywide clean-up last Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Several residents took advantage of the opportunity to dispose of loads of metal, trees, wood and other items. Solid Waste Superintendent Dale Fortin shared some numbers with the city commission last night.
Fortin says a number of tires were also brought to the rubble site during the cleanup.
Residence are reminded they can use their utility bill to bring one free load to the rubble site every month.
Also last night commissioners heard a request from Hurst’s Corner for a sidewalk use permit. This fenced in area on the north side of the building would be used as a smoking area. The project would require Hurst’s Corner replace a portion of the sidewalk in that area. The city is considering replacing the curb at the same time. Commissioners tabled the request for one week to allow city engineer Mike Wever time to prepare a cost estimate on curb replacement and also to determine whether or not additional outdoor lighting is required.
