The Huron City Commission took one ordinance and made it two Monday night. Both portions of the ordinances related to building and zoning codes, however each too were individually distinct. One ordinance would allow for the construction of small garages on lots without a home. The other dealt with the use of corrugated metal roofing usage. Current ordinance says living quarters must also be on a lot for a garage. Severe restrictions on the size and placement of a garage are included in the language of the ordinance. The proposal would bar variances from being granted to change the restrictions, which Commissioner Mark Robish opposed….
Commissioner Doug Kludt disagreed with Robish….
While supportive of the garage ordinance, Kludt was very opposed to the use of corrugated steel roofing in Huron…
Both ordinances passed on four to one votes with Robish voting against the garage ordinance and Kludt against the corrugated steel roofing ordinance. Both will return to the City Commission for second readings and public hearings on April 27th.
