Each year the Huron City Commission, generally gives approval to the purchase of two new patrol vehicles for the Huron Police Department. Police Chief Denny Meyer told the Huron City Commission Monday Schoenhard Ford in Huron could match state bid pricing for a Ford Interceptor S-U-V and Sedan…
The City takes one of the two vehicles and assigns it to the Finance Department to be used as a fleet vehicle for all city employees. Meanwhile the previous fleet vehicle is then put to use as a police unit. Meyer expects the cars to be replaced by the new units to have over 100-thousand miles on them. Meyer says the Fords are holding up well….
Commissioner Mark Robish followed Meyer’s response on durability by noting the cost of the S-U-V was around 300-dollars less than the Sedan…
Commissioner Bryan Smith made a motion to allow Meyer to order two police vehicles in whatever combination he wants, giving Meyer the flexibility to buy two S-U-V’s, two sedans or one of each. Meyer said he would informally poll officers to see what they would prefer, but ventured most would prefer the S-U-V. The new cars, once ordered could take up to four months to be delivered.
