Commission Denies Variance On Strange Shaped Lot

 

City of HuronThe Huron City Commission, meeting as the Board of Adjustments denied a proposed variance after nearly an hour of debate Monday night. Developer Dennis Estabrook brought a variance to the Commission to place a single family home on an odd shaped parcel of land near 22nd Street and Ohio Avenue. City Planner Ralph Borkowski told Commissioners that no matter what, a variance would be required for the land because a standard home would never meet setback codes….

The home Estabrook proposed would have been as close as five feet to one of the property lines. Clyde Gross lives in a home west of the property and encouraged the Commission to deny the variance…

Drainage of water off the land was a major concern when the request came before the Hearing Examiner and the Board of Adjustments as well….

The Board of Adjustments voted three to two to deny the variance with Commissioners Doug Kludt and Bryan Smith voting for the variance and Commissioners Gary Harrington and Mark Robish voting against. The two, two tie was broke with a nay from Mayor Paul Aylward.
