Commission Checks Out Beehive In Work Session

A work session following the Huron City Commission meeting introduced the City to Beehive Industries and their software to map city infrastructure. A representative from the company gave an online demonstration of the system during the over the phone presentation. The system would plot the location of water mains, sewer mains, shut offs and other information about the city’s water, sewer and street infrastructure. The system would allow for specific information, videos, and types of hardware used to be marked at a point in the system. City Engineer Mike Wever says they want to have a system that can tap in to the wealth of knowledge held by many city workers with years of experience around the city’s infrastructure…

The system would cost Huron 44 to 51-thousand dollars to start with a seven-thousand dollar monthly fee. That money would come from the city’s second-penny funds. Wever says he’s spoken with officials in Aberdeen, Brookings and Pierre. Huron would be the first city in South Dakota to use the Beehive system…

The system would let city workers access the program via a laptop or I-Pad to view information on the location their working in. The Commission took no action to approved the system. The topic may come before the City Commission later this year.
