The city has approved a variance request by developer Paul Moriarty for a vacant parcel of land in Southwest Huron.
The parcel is located approximately between 24th – 27th Streets and Van Hall Drive to Illinois Ave SW.
Moriarty requested the city allow lots to be platted less than the minimum required lot width of 100’ in an area zoned One Family, Two Family & Townhouse Residential District.
There are about six lots that do not meet the required 100′ minimum frontage.
The current plan is to plat lots along 24th Street for twin homes and the balance of the lots are being planned for single-family homes.
Moriarty also filed for a plat approval of the preliminary plat to subdivide a parcel of land in the Prairie Green Addition.
A public hearing date of June 3rd has been set to consider street vacation petitions filed by Moriarty and Lori Rathjen to vacate a piece of Illinois Ave SW street right-of-way located south of 24th Street SW in the Prairie Green Addition.
Also last night, Huron postal carrier Roger Hunt gave the commission an update on Saturday’s Letter carriers collected non-perishable food items to be donated to the local food bank.
Hunt said approximately 2,150 lbs of food items were collected compared to just a little under 1800 lbs in 2018.
