Commission Approves Variance Request from Isaak Walton League

The city commission has approved a variance request by Isaak Walton League to reconfigure the existing rifle range located at 715 Lawnridge Ave. NE.

Lanny Thomas, President of the Izaak Walton League says they were approached by the 4-H shooting sports club for permission to use the range.

The plan is to remove the south berm and divide the range into two sides by adding a berm. Ranges will then be set at 100 to 200 yards for shooting. Thomas says the reconfigured range will be safer and easier for the police to patrol with the entrance on the south end. A shelter will be built on the south end of the range. The east entrance of the range will be secured.

The range which is located in an area which do list a rifle range as a permitted use, is grandfathered in.

Also last night, the commission approved a resolution transferring commercial lot 2 in Southtown to Greater Huron Development Corporation.

GHDC is purchasing the lot for $400,000.
