Commission Approves Funding For James River Gauging Station

The Huron City Commission approved renewing an annual agreement with the US Geological Survey for operation of the gauge station on the James River that monitors the rivers levels. The City of Huron pays 1184 dollars as their share of the 14-thousand dollar cost to keep the gauge working. Commissioner Dale Schneider argued the need to keep funding the station….

Despite his objections, Schneider voted with the Commission continue to fund the gauge station on the James River. The Commission did not know if the information relayed by the station would be available if the city refused to fund it and will examine a way to see if the city’s share of funding could be reduced in the future.
