Clark, Wolsey/Wessington Qualify For Farm Safety Quiz Bowl

The South Dakota Farmer’s Union has released which F-F-A teams will be competing in the Team up to Safety Quiz Bowl. The annual Jeopardy style competition is taking place August 20th at the DakotaFest Farm Show in Mitchell. Clark, Wolsey-Wessington, Brookings and Lyman High School all survived quiz bowl semi-finals held last April in Brookings against 18 teams. Students will be answering questions related to health and safety on farms and ranches. Large machinery, chemicals, livestock and enclosed spaces like grains bins are some of the risks farm workers face. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say and estimated one million youth under 20 years old work on farms in the U-S and could be exposed to such hazards. Farmer’s Union President Doug Somke says the the quiz bowl is a fun way for students to learn who to be safe around farm hazards. The Team up to Safety Quiz Bowl finals will begin at 2:30 PM on the 20th, under the South Dakota State University tent in the northwest corner of Dakotafest.
