City to Hold First Reading of Water Conservation Ordinance

The Huron City Commission will hold the 1st reading of an ordinance that would establish an odd/even watering schedule from June 1st – Sept. 30th.

Customers with odd-numbered addresses, ending with 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9, would be allowed to water lawns, trees, and landscaping on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Customers with even-numbered addresses, ending with 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8, would water lawns, trees, and landscaping on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Watering for all addresses would be permitted on Sunday.

Watering of lawns, trees, and landscaping on any day would be prohibited between the hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hand watering of vegetation such as shrubbery, trees, ground covers, plants, vines, gardens, vegetables, and flowers would be permitted on any day of the week and at any time.

Rain sensors would be required on all automatic irrigation or watering systems that receive water supplied by the City.

Waivers for new sod or newly seeded areas would available from the city engineer.

Also tonight, the city will hold the 2nd reading of an ordinance regarding the use of sea/land metal shipping containers for commercial and residential storage.
