The Huron City Commission will hold the 2nd reading of an ordinance that would establish an odd/even watering schedule in Huron.
The ordinance is a water conservation measure that addresses increased water usage by industry and housing in Huron.
Residents with odd-numbered addresses, ending with 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9, would be allowed to water lawns, trees, and landscaping on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, while those with even-numbered addresses, ending with 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8, would water on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
All addresses would be permitted to water on Sunday.
Watering of lawns, trees, and landscaping on any day would be prohibited between the hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Hand watering of vegetation such as shrubbery, trees, ground covers, plants, vines, gardens, vegetables, and flowers would be permitted at any time.
Rain sensors would be required on all new automatic irrigation or watering systems that receive water supplied by the City.
Waivers for new sod or newly seeded areas would available from the city engineer. The waivers would be good for 30 days after the sod is installed.
Also tonight, the commission will consider awarding the bid for sludge drying bed improvements to Premier Contracting, LLC of Huron.
